Original Images (Film Poster)

Here's the two images I used for my film poster, I combined the two together to show a transformation of Jason Hawkes going from human to Lizard because this is what's visualised in my trailer.

Original Photos (Magazine Cover)

Here are all the imagery used in my AMUSIVE Magazine Cover, overall I used seven images all captured by myself. The image to the left with the border is the finished magazine cover; the three image at the bottom right are the main cover images and the above right four images are feature images for fictional films I made it.

Choice of Trailer & Synopsis

COLD BLOOD
Group: Michelle Connop / Brad Lacey / Beth Quittenton / Lauren Peace

Choice of Trailer:
50% Highlights (Beginning) 50% Scene (Ending)
Beginning of trailer catches attention of the viewers, making them react to the highlights of the film and become visually interested whereas the second half of the trailer is presented as a scene trailer, showing more of the main characters purpose and also a transformation scene ending on a jump scare. The highlights are to start the trailer off with a narrative and the scene is a slow montage which fastens up when the transformation is shown, ending on a jump scare.
Here's the mask at which will be worn when a bully is turned into a lizard.
Film Synopsis:
An 18 year old named Michael is a target for bullies and has been his whole life, at college he studies Science and dedicates his life to the study of reptiles and amphibians, also known as Herpetology. Michael studies Herpetology in his lessons and finds out that the creatures DNA includes Autotomy, allowing them to regrow cells and limbs. This drives him to the idea of experimenting with the DNA of the Reptiles and stealing important documents from his classroom allowing him to create a substance to give a human Lizard genetics. The idea of him changing humans into a more developed and intelligent life form leads him into kidnapping his former bullies and using them as victims of his experiments.

The results of these experiments always leave the victim tortured and killed, yet eventually Michael finds the error to his substance and fixes it, leading to the final victim which he chloroforms and kidnaps to a room in which he injects them. This victim is then feeling pain in which is inside is burning and killing him yet as the substance kicks in, their newly developed Lizard DNA heals them, giving them features of a Lizard and transforming them into a beast. The DNA also changes the brain, making him forget what Michael has done and in fact siding with him.

Class Poster Idea (Audience Research)

As a group; I, Brad, Lauren and Beth all created a concept for a trailer where a younger girl was sadly killed in a car accident. Subsequently, the farther of this child is driven insane over his loss - he then kidnaps young girls who look similar. That was a slight overview of our idea - it's explained thoroughly on the image above.

We Received a lot of positive feedback which reads that our trailer concept is a good story line from a different approach. The idea of the father treating the kidnapped girls nicely, as opposed to abusively treating them, is a different method of dealing with his loss - commonly murderers would results to violence. The context is modern and refers to the disappearance of Madaline McCane - subsequently tapping into feats of threat to a family and all parents worst nightmares of loosing a child. The use of different age ranges that would be used in the film is different and wouldn't suggest a student film - this would also engage a range of audiences as opposed to just teenagers.

On the contrary, the constructive criticism are as followed: the plot needs to be simplified to make the trailer easier to create. The concept may be hard to explain so there will need to be thorough use of inter-titles. There's also a comment of advice for  when we create the trailer, to show how the daughter and how she dies as well as a kidnap of a girl the same age - this will help explain the storyline clearly.

The class then voted on whether they would watch the marks and we received 100%; 21/21 people said they'd watch the film. Which is great and we're all extremely pleased with our feedback.

We've recently decided to change our concept to a monster/lizard idea due to complications of actors; we never knew any children who could act and the ones we did know would have been difficult to direct due to their age. Subsequently, under those grounds, we've changed the overall concept to a Herpetology inspired horror which will include a transformation of a human being turned into a Lizard.

Here's a draft, that me and the group have come up wit,h as a rough idea of what our new poster will look like.

The Haunting in Connecticut (2009) trailer review

HAUNTING IN CONNETICUT (2009) trailer review
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MRJA3lN0xCQ

WHICH POSITIVE, CLEVER OR INTERESTING ASPECTS DO YOU THINK YOU COULD INCLUDE IN YOUR OWN TRAILER? WHAT GENERIC FEATURES ARE FULFILLED WELL?
·         The trailer tells you enough about the plot but not enough to know the whole storyline.
·        It keeps you on the edge of your seat because you’re waiting and expecting something to happen.
·         The fact that it stated it was based on a true story makes it all the scarier.
·         It makes you jump several times so it sells horror
WHICH ASPECT OF THE TRAILED DID YOU THINK WERE UNSUCCESSFUL, AND WOULD PUT OFF ITS TARGET AUDIENCE? HOW IS IT DISAPPOINTING?
·         It focuses a lot on the paranormal aspects with the séance which is great but we want to know why they’re having it. Fairly confusing.
·         They should play more on it being a true story through keep suggesting it throughout the trailer because when it’s based on a true story, it always makes horrors scarier to approach.
WHAT DO YOU RATE THE TRAILERS SCORE? WHY DID IT RECEIVE THAT MARK?

I rate it an 8.  These types of movies, the psychological horrors with paranormal occurrences is very enticing, I prefer this genre of horror. And the fact it’s based on a true story makes it a lot scarier. There are a lot of jumpy sections so it sells horror. The fact that the main character is a teenager makes it appeal more to me, as we’re the same age.

The Woman in Black: Angel of Death Trailer (2013)

WOMAN IN BLACK – ANGEL OF DEATH TRAILER REVIEW
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4rzV0CvhyM

WHICH POSITIVE, CLEVER OR INTERESTING ASPECTS DO YOU THINK YOU COULD INCLUDE IN YOUR OWN TRAILER? WHAT GENERIC FEATURES ARE FULFILLED WELL?
·         The hidden identity of the ‘woman in black’ is very mysterious and enticing.
·        The end is a drop scare that is unexpected to which we finally see ‘the woman in black’.
·        The era is very dated, looks to be set in the early 1900s – during the WWII - due to the aesthetics, which is very interesting and historical contextual.
WHICH ASPECT OF THE TRAILED DID YOU THINK WERE UNSUCCESSFUL, AND WOULD PUT OFF ITS TARGET AUDIENCE? HOW IS IT DISAPPOINTING?
·         It doesn't deliver horror enough; it’s more of a thriller/mystery film – the only horror/jumpy part was the ending.
·         The build up to the plot was fairly long. We don’t understand the horror of the house until ¾ of the way through when things occur in the house.
WHAT DO YOU RATE THE TRAILERS SCORE? WHY DID IT RECEIVE THAT MARK?

I rate it a 6. I don’t think it sold horror enough; there was only was section that made me jump. The reason why I gave it a 6 is predominantly because of the early 1900s stylistic aspects which are very interesting to see. This may be very popular with other people but I’m not of interest in this genre of horror.

The Last House on the Left (2009) Trailer

THE LAST HOUSE ON THE LEFT -  TRAILER REVIEW
WHICH POSITIVE, CLEVER OR INTERESTING ASPECTS DO YOU THINK YOU COULD INCLUDE IN YOUR OWN TRAILER? WHAT GENERIC FEATURES ARE FULFILLED WELL?
·         I like how at the start of the film, the dialogue between John (father) and Mary (daughter) states that they’ll be living at “the last house on the left” which is “the only house for miles”. This connotes the mise-en-scene of an isolated location. The way they’ve used the film name embedded into their dialogue is very clever and gives it more significance – denotes that something’s going to occur to which will restrict a character greatly.
·        the way the scene goes from happy and joyful whilst Mary, Justin and Paige are being typical teenagers, messing about, smoking and having fun but then there’s a rapid collision cut where the joyful tune in the background turns to intense music when the crooks all walk in the rooms, this is where the horror then occurs.
·        Several sections in the trailer fade to black to show the harsh horror events that will happen in the movie, for example when the crooks are shooting at Mary whilst she’s on her escape swimming in the water, it fades to black and then it shows the three crooks stating “you got her”.
·        The way the pace is very quick showing all the best sections in the film, makes it seem extremely horrific and edgy. It mirrors the events in the actual film. The upbeat pace gives adrenalin.
WHICH ASPECT OF THE TRAILED DID YOU THINK WERE UNSUCCESSFUL, AND WOULD PUT OFF ITS TARGET AUDIENCE? HOW IS IT DISAPPOINTING?
·         It doesn't deliver horror enough; it’s more of an action/thriller film.
·         I watched the film before I saw the trailer, and I can see that there are no hidden sections in this; this is a highlights trailer that sells the whole story line and shows the best and most horrific parts in the film. Thus is what will put people off.

WHAT DO YOU RATE THE TRAILERS SCORE? WHY DID IT RECEIVE THAT MARK?

I rate it an 8 because I think the trailer is very good. It has horrific aspects entailed and the pace is upbeat which gives you adrenalin as well as giving the film an edge to which will make you want to watch it more. I know the trailer releases too much of the story line which is why it dropped two marks from 10 marks but I believe they've made clever use of collision cutting, black outs and restricted narration. The way they've played on the name of the film is very enticing which signifies the location being enclosed and creepy. Overall, great editing and very enticing.
